Moshe Feldenkrais defined health as the ability to recover from shock.
Shock can be injury, trauma, losing a job, grief, or simply taking a long, hard look at our lives. It can be current, it can be old. It doesn't matter. The gift of this method is that it allows you to connect with your thoughts, feelings, and sensations while moving. The nervous system is then given the precious opportunity to process the constant stimuli from the outside world in a different way.
Starting with gentle movements, you will be guided to pay attention to yourself in new ways as you notice how the increasing complexity of your movement affects your breathing and muscle tone. You will learn to sense holding patterns and let them go. You develop skill in paying attention. This provides access to more and more potential responses to the world, what Feldenkrais calls new ways of "doing", which leads to greater self understanding. This workshop will offer:
- New ways to sense balance
- New ways to feel powerful in your skeleton and relaxed in your muscles
- New ways to adapt to changing circumstances
- New ways to access, sense, and move hidden parts of yourself
